At the Masters a group of us met, including Bob Corson, and discussed tricks. We all agreed that a full overhaul or a big change was unneccessary and really wouldn't change things in a more positive way. I firmly agree that each two years we take a look at the trick event and correct three or four trick values that seem really unfair. The following are areas I think could be discussed. W7B's: I believe the W7's are difficult and have the added danger of the handle pass and rotation. Not many skiers are doing them any more and I think they could go up to 550. SLO's and SLBB's: I don't agree with the comments I have heard about bringing SLBB down in points. I think SLBB is a difficult trick especially for your women skiers, it has the extra time elelment of a position trick front and slack which takes time. The reverse of the trick is also very hard, so you really have one SLBB compared to two SLO's. I think it makes alot more sense to simply bring up the point values of the SLO's to 450 points. T7F: I see alot of skiers work on this trick for many years and still have difficulty with consistency and hesitation, the trick is not extremely fast. I think this trick could go up 50 points to 500. Flip points: I think flip points should stay exactly where they are. Theback flip Front to backs seem weighted a little heavy, but the back flip FB to the reverse back wrap is extremely difficult for the women and your average skier. They have already been working hard on this trick for three or four years and they still are not doing them. I think moving the points down will kill the girls moving forward with flips. All of the flip guys are talikng they need more points in flip, but I firmly disagree that they need more. They already have a huge advantage within the point system which I don't completely disagree with because they are exciting and add to the event, but I do disagree with giving them an even bigger advantage. Take a look at how many new flips skiers are doing at the current point values and remember they are not adding more rotational tricks. Russell started his run at team trials with a Flip 540 and did Mobe FF at the Masters and Pan Ams. Nick is starting his hand pass with two Mobe BB's. Joel Wing has been doing Mobe FF for two years. Aaron Rathey is all of 16 and is starting supposedly with flip 540 and doing two Mobe BB's. If these tricks were not enough points these skiers would not be doing them. Any time a skier gets 800 points or more for a trick it is huge. Front Flips: The front flip issue is one that I feel strongest about. The trick is worth 800 points which is alot and worth every point, if you do a true front flip. Many skiers are not doing front flips, they are doing front rolls or half back rolls kind of mixed with fronts. I propose to add a Front Roll under the same point # in the book as front flip, so that you can do either a front roll or a front flip, but not both. The front flip would stay at 800 points and I would put front roll at 500 points. It is quite simle when skiers do a correct front flip end over end they would get 800 points and all of the blended front flips would be 500 points. The front roll is twice as easy and much faster and is extremely unfair to those skiers doing it correctly.
